Begin Your Daily Devotional: A Guide to Bible Journaling

Dear friends,

My prayer is that through reading the Word of God these 4 months, your walk with the Lord will grow closer, sweeter, and deeper than ever before. May the Word of God transform your life to know God more, to love Him more, and to live out His Word more.

I highly recommend Bible Journaling or doing devotionals each day as you read. Here’s how Bible Journaling works.

How to Bible Journal

1) Choose a verse or two from your Bible reading to meditate on and apply to your life that day. Write the verse.

For example:

I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live (Deuteronomy 30:19)

In Deuteronomy 17:18, the kings of Israel were commanded to write out the whole Torah so that they would learn to fear God and be blessed. Writing a verse out that helps you to remember and internalize it.

I write out the verse in my journal. Others write it on a sticky note and put it somewhere they will see it often. For those who love art, you can also hand letter or draw out the verse in your journal, on a poster, or on a card.

2) Praise & Prayer

For example:

Praise: Thank You, God, for Your Word, which gives life and shows us what is right and what pleases You. Thank You for blessing those who obey You and walk in Your ways. You are faithful and good.

Pray: Please help me to choose life, to choose to obey You in every thought, decision, word, and action today. Please give me strength and the desire to live out Your Word.

Praise to God for who He is and what He has done, and pray for applying these verses to your life.

You can also follow the A.C.T.S. or P.R.A.Y. acronyms:

A.C.T.S.P.R.A.Y.
Adoration – Praise God for who He is
Confession – Ask for forgiveness for sins
Thanksgiving – Thank God for His blessings and what He has done in your life
Supplication – Lay your requests before the Father
Praise – Praise God for who He is, what He has done, and all the blessings in your life
Repent – Repent of sins and ask for forgiveness
Ask – Lay your requests before the Father
Yield – Surrender to the Lord

I write out my praise and prayer requests in my journal. It is a good record for me to look back and see what God was doing in my life.

You can also pray out loud and record it on your phone. Feel free to adapt it to whatever style works best for you.

the Word of God is the most necessary breath for the lungs of our souls. I have written meditative thoughts. As I have been reading according to plan C, I have rediscovered stories and details I have read or heard about as a little boy. Bible journaling has actually crossed my mind these past two weeks and I am loving the connection I am experiencing with the Holy Spirit and I hope everyone else in this Bible reading challenge draws closer to The Lord as well.
